Howlite is named for its discoverer, Henry How, a Nova Scotian geologist. Howlite is naturally white or grey, but accepts dyes fairly easily. Howlite is found in continental evaporate deposits with other borate and evaporate minerals, forming in cauliflower-like nodules.
